Instead of working to improve the lives of the people living in Tennessee, it seems that the TN GOP’s main motivation is the oppression and punishment of Tennesseans. Below is a sample of the oppressive and punishment driven legislation that they are currently working on.

GOP: Governance by Oppression and Punishment

SB1746 states that private citizens and organizations are not bound by the Fourteenth Amendment or the Supreme Court’s decision in Obergefell v. Hodges to recognize a marriage between individuals of the same sex.

They have already banned abortion, and introduced legislation this session calling for the death penalty for women who have an abortion.

The TN GOP has worked with Stephen Miller to craft immigration bills for our state. They are welcoming ICE in to terrorize our neighbors and our communities.

  • Voted for and co-sponsored the #AbortionBan and voted against amendments that offered exceptions for rape, aggravated rape and incest. Amendment 2 was for every woman and girl in Tennessee. Three was for at least the underage girls of Tennessee. He never stood or spoke to defend either amendment and was with his caucus as they vocally voted against both amendments and then proceeded to pass the #abortionban that has taken away the rights of women in Tennessee and potentially made our doctors criminals for trying to live up the their oath to take care of their patient. Here’s the video (https://tnga.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=414&clip_id=17265&meta_id=411343). One of them gives a thumbs down in the background while Senator Gilmore was speaking on Amendment 3 about our underage girls who are victims of rape, aggravated rape and incest. This cannot stand. We must restore women's rights in Tennessee.

  • Voted to criminalize ordering the plan B pill and receiving it by mail, courier or delivery. Must be in person.

  • Voted to criminalize our homeless and make them felons instead of investing in mental health, rehabilitation and re-integration programs to help our struggling fellow Tennesseans.

  • Is against legalization and tried to pass a bill to re-criminalize CBD that would have hurt our farmers, closed small businesses across our state and caused thousands of Tennesseans to lose their jobs.
