LANGAN

TENNESSEE SENATE DISTRICT 7

Hi, my name is Bryan Langan, and I’m running to bring accountability to our government and affordability to the people of Tennessee.

A graduate of the University of Tennessee, and a current resident of the Karns community, I’m running for Tennessee Senate to represent the people of District 7. Having worked in blue collar jobs for nearly three decades, my experience in the service industry, management and transition to the trades means I know first-hand the challenges Tennessee workers face. I believe that instead of listening to the corporations and special interests, it is time for the voice of people to be heard and hope to earn the vote of every hard-working Tennesseean in District 7.

For the past 15 years the Tennessee GOP has held all three branches of our state government. They could pass anything they want to make life better and more affordable for Tennesseans. Instead, under their leadership, costs are higher and services lower. Thanks to their refusal to expand Medicaid we have fewer hospitals offering fewer services resulting in healthcare and particularly maternity care deserts in our communities. This means Tennesseans often have to travel over an hour for healthcare and puts a strain on the remaining system. Under our current leadership the cost of basic utilities like water and electricity are skyrocketing. Housing costs have gone through the roof. Wages haven’t kept up and job growth has come to a screeching halt, making the purchase of a home nearly impossible for many hardworking Tennesseans. Instead of addressing affordability, they propose and pass culture war bills that attack Tennessee women, our poor and our minorities. They continuously side with corporations and profit over the people of Tennessee, passing legislation that allows companies to take advantage of our workers, pollute our waterways and destroy our land.

Tennesseans are fed up, and we deserve better.

Our government should be working on the issues that improve the lives of Tennesseans instead of the divisive and oppressive politics of our current supermajority. My focus will be on delivering tangible benefits for the people of Tennessee and making sure their voices are represented long after I’m gone. That’s why I will work to pass campaign funding laws that curb corporate influence in our elections and will introduce legislation to enact term limits for senators, representatives and judges in Tennessee. This November I hope I will have earned your vote and the privilege to represent you in Nashville. When elected, I will work to defend the rights of all Tennesseans, make Tennessee more affordable and ensure future generations have access to the natural beauty of our state.

Accountability

  • Campaign Finance Reform: I will introduce legislation to reform our campaign laws at the state level to get money out of politics and ensure the will of the people is not drowned out by the financial influence of corporations and special interests.

  • Enact Term Limits at the state level: No one should sit in their seat forever. It is time we implement term limits for all Senators, Representatives and Judges in Tennessee

  • Community Centered Districting: In order for the people and communities of Tennessee to be truly represented we must commit to non-partisan districts that strive to keep our communities together.

  • Pass Ranked Choice Voting.

Affordability

  • Introduce the Sales Tax Relief Act to end the state sales tax on

    • Groceries

    • Clothing under $50

    • Footwear under $100

  • Introduce a Tennessee Right to Privacy Act to

    • End data mining and surveillance of Tennesseans.

    • Ban Surge Pricing.

    • Ban Surveillance Pricing.

  • Address Wages, Housing, Healthcare and childcare by expanding Medicaid, expanding pre-K, raising the minimum wage, repealing the 2018 ban on affordable housing requirements and give the power back to cities and counties to make decisions that are right for their communities.

Other Priorities

  • Repair and Upgrade Our Failing Infrastructure, including Roads, Bridges and Sewers.

  • Support Our Teachers and Fully Fund Our Public Schools. Tennessee public schools are currently last in the country on spending per student.

  • Defend and Restore the Rights of All Tennesseans including the right to bodily autonomy

  • Legalize and Tax the Sale of Cannabis: Use revenue to fund infrastructure and education while helping farmers by giving them access to another cash crop.
